Project: Water, Sewer Upgrades on Portions of 78th Street and 29th Street: A preconstruction meeting was held on February 1, 2024 for an upcoming water and sewer project in Avalon that will improve service with a resilient system. The Avalon Borough Council awarded a contract to Mathis Construction for water system upgrades on 78th Street between Ocean Drive and Sunset Drive, and a sewer system upgrade on 29th Street, from manhole to manhole, between Dune Drive and Ocean Drive. AREA INFORMATION & ACTIVITIES:
- Ice Skating: Friday & Saturday, 12pm-8pm, Sunday, 12pm-6pm, through February. ICONA Avalon, 7849 Dune Drive Avalon.
- Aquarium Feeding at the Wedlands Institute: Sat, February 10, 11am – 12pm. Help us feed the local marine life! We will open up feeding each week so you can see the burrfish eating crabs and the horseshoe crab gobbling shrimp. (Not all animals are fed each day.)
- Aquarium Teaching and Touch Tank at the Wedlands Institute: Sun, February 11, 11am – 12pm. There is no better way to learn about the local creatures found in the salty waters of the ocean or New Jersey back-bays than to experience them firsthand! Come join a Wetlands Institute educator for a unique, interactive learning experience as they teach about whelk, skates, sea urchins, sea stars, mud snails, and more! Please come prepared to touch the animals by not having any bug spray, hand sanitizer or lotion on your hands.
